High Performance MySQL on Kubernetes

Performance, price, and price-performance are critical points of interest when it comes to selecting an analytics platform, because they ultimately impact total cost of ownership, value, and user satisfaction. In this report, we reveal the results of MySQL performance testing. We tested these platforms:

  • Diamanti Ultima Enterprise Kubernetes Platform (UE) on:
    • AWS
    • GCP
    • Bare Metal
  • Amazon Web Services Elastic Kubernetes Service (AWS EKS)
  • Diamanti Ultima Accelerator Kubernetes Platform (UA)
    • OpenShift
  • Google Cloud Platform Google Kubernetes Engine (GCP GKE)

We found that Diamanti provides a better query and transaction throughput than AWS EKS and GCP GKE does for applications that demand high performance, such as those that require provisioned I/O or fast NVMe drives. When we examined the performance of both solutions on the same AWS EC2 instance types as well as the same GCP GKE instance types, we discovered that Diamanti had much greater query throughput and was always more cost effective. On our Diamanti Bare Metal setups, we saw queries per second eclipse 1.2 million.
